English Café: You don’t need to write “whom” anymore
Online Course
Advanced Details: You don’t need to write “whom” or “whomever” anymore
Like most things, language changes over the years.
Whom is a word in transition. It is becoming extinct. Over the last 200 years, the pronoun “whom” has been on a steady decline. It won’t be the first pronoun form to drop from use, similar to the extinct pronouns, thou, thee, and ye, which are never used by modern speakers of English, except for Shakespearean English and very formal English. My advice? Don’t worry about “whom” or “whomever.” Most native speakers of English do not use them anymore in their informal business and technical writing. We rarely need them at PTTEP. Write who and whoever.
