English Café: Is it correct to say “Energies”?

Online Course

Advanced DetailsIs it correct to say energies?

The noun energy is an uncountable noun – we write energy, without an -s. However, as is usual when we talk about language, there are always exceptions. 555

If we want to talk about different kinds of energy, then it is possible to add -s, and force energy into becoming a plural, countable noun. For example, normally we write: That country has much energy (they have many energy resources). But, we could also write: That country has many types, or kinds of energy (solar, oil, water resources, such as dams) … Which leads us to: That country has many energies.
