Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Analyze the environmental, safety, and regulatory implications of CO₂ leakage, and understand the importance of effective containment.
• Identify various pathways and failure scenarios that could lead to CO₂ migration, including both natural and well-related mechanisms.
• Apply structured site assessment frameworks to evaluate storage security, integrate multidisciplinary data, and support risk-based decision-making.
• Evaluate key geological criteria—such as caprock integrity and reservoir characteristics—that determine a site’s suitability for long-term CO₂ storage.
• Assess the integrity of both legacy and newly drilled wells, identify potential issues, and develop remediation or risk mitigation strategies.
• Implement best practices in the design of monitoring wells to enable early detection, verification, and long-term surveillance of CO₂ containment.
