DWE-A002 CCS #2: Well Integrity for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Related to Drilling and Well Servicing Activities
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Analyze the environmental, safety, and regulatory implications of CO2 leakage, and understand the importance of effective containment.
- Identify various pathways and failure scenarios that could lead to CO2 migration, including both natural and well-related mechanisms.
- Apply structured site assessment frameworks to evaluate storage security, integrate multidisciplinary data, and support risk-based decision-making.
- Evaluate key geological criteria—such as caprock integrity and reservoir characteristics—that determine a site’s suitability for long-term CO2 storage.
- Assess the integrity of both legacy and newly drilled wells, identify potential issues, and develop remediation or risk mitigation strategies.
- Implement best practices in the design of monitoring wells to enable early detection, verification, and long-term surveillance of CO2 containment.
Course Content
The course covers the following modules:
- Module 1: The Impact of Carbon Dioxide Leakage
- Module 2: Identifying Leakage Risks in CCS
- Module 3: Framework for CCS Site Assessment
- Module 4: Geological Screening Essentials
- Module 5: Well Screening and Integrity Evaluation
- Module 6: Designing Monitoring Wells for Leakage Detection
