English Café: Revise is a verb / Revision is the noun
Online Course
Advanced Details: Revise is a verb – Revision is the noun
Two -ise verbs are important for us at PTTEP: revise and supervise. Both verbs use the ending/suffix -ise. An ending, or suffix, is a letter or group of letters, like -ise, added at the end of a word which makes a new word. By changing the suffix -ise to -ion, we can change these verbs, revise and supervise, into nouns: revision and supervision. English has many nouns in end in -ion: union, opinion, creation, and communication.
It is a common belief that -ize is an Americanism and the British is -ise: recognize rather than recognise. If you spell with -ize, that is an American spelling. But for most verbs, either way is correct in British English, and the -ize ending has been in use in English for a long time. Just be sure in your email and report writing NOT to write Revise of XXX. You should write Revision of XXX.
