English Café: Website or Web site

Advanced DetailsWebsite or Web site?

In English, compound nouns and adjectives often begin their life as 2 words, e.g., sea water. Over time, however, it is natural in English for these 2 words to evolve and grow closer together. In the end, they become just one word., e.g., seawater. Also, sometimes there is a middle step where the two words have a hyphen to connect them as a single word, e.g., sea-water. Technical English, including a lot of the English that we use at PTTEP, has a lot of these types of words. So, we often encounter words like website, and also see two words, such as web site.
