Used to is used to describe a past action that was repeated or a past state that is no longer true. It is NOT used to talk about one event that happened in the past. We don’t say I used to eat in that restaurant yesterday. I ate in that restaurant yesterday.

• I used to swim every day as a child.
• We used to live in Chonburi when I was a kid.
• He used to play football for the local team, but he’s too old now.

We can also use used to to talk about past habits (repeated past actions) that don't happen any more.

• He used to smoke but he gave up a few years ago.
